History of the club

The Hamilton Woodturners Club began in 1993, offering skill and technique-building classes through Waikato Polytechnic. Participants ranged from teenagers to octogenarians with many continuing their woodturning skills into a lifelong hobby.

Changes to community education prompted the club to adapt how it served its members. With strong support and successful fundraising, the group established an independent workshop on the outskirts of Dinsdale, where it continues to thrive today.

The Hamilton Woodturners Club traces its origins back to late 1993, when the first classes were held at The Waikato Polytechnic building on the Central Hamilton Campus. These early classes welcomed members aged 14 to 86 and focused on teaching the fundamentals of woodturning. Many participants went on to make woodturning a lifelong hobby, continuing to develop their skills and techniques.
